OKAPENNY FIELD NOTES
How to approach small charitable trusts
Make the right request through the right route.
Find the correct charity
Similar names can refer to different trusts. Match the registered number and latest contact record before you prepare a request.
Respect the application route
Use a form when required. Do not email a postal-only funder. A registered contact email may be for administration rather than grant applications. If no guidance is available, start with a short enquiry.
Keep the request proportionate
Explain the need, beneficiaries, amount requested and what it buys. Provide a clear budget and show other funding. Historical expenditure is not a published grant limit.
Make follow-up useful
Record when you applied, the stated decision timetable and any reporting requirement. Check reapplication rules before another approach.
